FAQ - MICROBLADING

Previously Tattooed:

Clients that have work done by other artists need to contact Ally before booking an appointment. A picture of your brows can be sent via email or text in order to evaluate how much pigment you have remaining. Not all previously tattooed clients are good candidates for Microblading.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is the manual process of inserting pigment into the outermost layer of the skin to create full, natural-looking eyebrows. What makes Microblading truly unique is the hand tool used. The formation of tiny needles allows the artist to create the look of real eyebrow hairs by tattooing very fine hair-like strokes in the skin. The technique used achieves fullness and shape by mimicking your hair pattern.

Can anyone have Microblading done?

Microblading is an ideal option for those with healthy, normal to dry skin types, with medium to full existing brow hair. Those with very little to no brow hair or with oily/ mature skin types are better candidates for MicroShading or Powder Brows.

You cannot receive Microblading if you are:

  • Pregnant/breastfeeding

  • Currently using Accutane, or have used Accutane within the past year

  • Have a fresh tan or sunburn on your face

  • Are on blood thinning medications

  • Have rosacea on your face

  • Are currently undergoing cancer treatment

  • Must be off Chemo or Radiation for 6 months

  • Botox/Fillers - has to be done at least 30 days prior to appointment

  • Antibiotics - has to be stopped at least 30 days prior to appointment

Contact Ally if you are under the care of a physician to see if you qualify. A doctor's note may be needed.

What factors will affect my Microblading?

  • Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter

  • Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading

  • Age and Metabolism. The faster your metabolism the faster the pigment will fade

  • Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow pre care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine at least 24 hours before your procedure.

Do I need to wax or trim my eyebrows before my appointment?

No, it is not necessary or recommended for a client to get rid of any natural hair she may already have. Ally works with your eyebrow hair so please no waxing or tweezing before your appointment. Microblading is done to enhance the hair you have to make the eyebrows look as natural as possible.

How long do the brows last?

Microblading results last approximately 12-18 months, depending on your skin type, products used and environmental factors. Microblading is a 2 step procedure with the initial appointment and the touchup session 8-12 weeks later. This ensures that the color is locked in and doesn't leave the skin completely.

Does it hurt?

Before the procedure begins, 5% lidocaine is applied to the area to minimize discomfort, followed by a gel epinephrine throughout the appointment if needed. You might feel a slight discomfort, but most experiences are minimal pain.

How is the shape determined?

During your first session (approximately 2- 2.5 hours), Ally will custom design your brow shape using a brow mapping method based on your bone structure, eye placement, face shape, and desired look.

How should I prepare for my appointment? What is the precare?

  • Do: fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can see what you are used to. Feel free to bring in photos of brows you love so we can get an idea of you brow goals.

  • Do: leave your brows as full as possible. Any shaping will be done during your session.

  • Do not wax, tweeze, or thread a minimum of 3 days before your appointment.

  • Do not take Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment.

  • Avoid alcohol 48 hours prior to your appointment and limit caffeine 24 hours before

  • Avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30 days before and after your procedure. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it which is not ideal for best results.

Note: Plan any tropical vacations a minimum of 14 days after your procedure as you need to protect your new brows from the sun and water.

What is the aftercare/at-home care like?

  • You will need to keep your brows extra clean

  • You will gently wash them morning and night for 7 days with a cleanser provided. Make sure to wash outside of the shower with cold/warm water and only wipe in the direction of hair growth, no circles or hard rubbing, scrubbing.

  • Use the brow balm 1x daily & gently apply with a Q-Tip

  • Clients still need to keep dry in the shower +  avoid hot showers

  • No excessive sweating for 7 days

  • No sauna, hot tub, pool, ocean, etc for 7 days

  • Do not pick, rub, or scratch your new brows or the peeling flakes and avoid sleeping on face till healed

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks

  • No anti aging or acne products on them ever (Retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or other chemical exfoliants will cause fading)

What can I expect during the healing process?

Immediately after your first session your brows will appear bolder and sharper than what they'll actually heal as.

  • Day 1-2         Brows will be dramatically darker and seem a bit thicker due to the skin healing

  • Day 3-15       Brows will peel and seem very light

  • Day 15-42     Brows will reappear and may be a bit patchy

After 6 weeks the brows will be completely healed and this is when we perfect them with a Touchup Session.

For most clients, minimum of two treatments are usually needed, 8-12 weeks apart. At your touchup session, we will assess the color and retention and make adjustments if necessary.

Microblading Results:
Ally does not guarantee healed results on anyone. The final result will vary from person to person. Makeup may still be needed to give you the results you desire. At times, additional sessions after the first touch up are necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly after the first session, this is normal. We can easily go darker and add more fullness during your Touchup Session.
